CAPITALAND CHORUS BRINGS HOME A GOLD MEDAL!

On April 29th, 2007, the Capitaland Chorus of Albany, NY, members of Sweet Adelines International, an outstanding 4-part a-cappella chorus, under the direction of Kathy Mendenhall, Master Director, competed along with 29 other choruses in their regional contest in Syracuse, N.Y. and came away as the 1st place winners of the AA mid-size choruses, and 4th place winners overall. This chorus has been together for over 25 years, starting out as the Latham Circle Chapter and later changing their name to Capitaland, to incorporate the 7 counties that are represented by its members, all women ranging from the ages of 20+ to 80+. Capitaland Chorus has won 4 Regional competitions since 1996 and has competed Internationally 4 times, the last time was in the fall of 2005 in Detroit, MI!

Capitaland Chorus is presenting a free, “A Cappella 101” course from 6-8pm on Thursdays, starting May 31. This 4-week course will introduce the fundamentals of A Cappella singing through vocal production, breathing techniques, and demonstrations by master director Kathy Mendenhall and members of Capitaland Chorus. CAPITALAND CHORUS PLACES 4th IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

The Capitaland Chorus, a member of Sweet Adelines International, based in Albany, NY, recently won fourth place honors for mid-size choruses in the Harmony Classic Competition held in San Antonio, Texas.  The chorus was judged on a 15 minute entertainment package, including a parody of "Zoot Suit Riot", called "Grapefruit Diet", written by Wierd Al Yankovic.

More than fifty members of the Capitaland Chorus attended the International Education Symposium, with the theme "Kickin' it up a Notch!", which offered nearly 200 classes in vocal production, performance skills, music theory, teamwork, and chorus administration, among other topics. 

First place in the mid-size category was won by Metro Nashville Chorus of  Tennessee.  Other competitors included: 2nd place - City Voices Chorus, Missouri; 3rd place - Santa Monica Chorus, California; and 5th place - High Country Chorus, Colorado.  The small chorus competition was won by Stockholm City Voices Chorus, Sweden.

The Capitaland Chorus will reprise their entertainment package at Freedom Park in Scotia on Wednesday evening, Aug. 13.
